OTHER TAX IDEAS
Solely for purposes of having an interesting conversation, i.e., not for the purpose of enacting as current legislation, I offer you my ideal tax system, YOUR SHARE under which the federal budget would be allocated to all citizens - see further discussion of YOUR SHARE in REPLACING THE INCOME TAX, Supplement 28 on page 85.
An interesting proposal is the NEUTRAL TAX under which the federal govt would tax the States based on their revenues.
Another interesting idea is the SIMPLE TAX - Phase I is a transition period to a very Flat Income Tax that is somewhat similar to mine; in Phase II, that converts to a consumption tax.
Another new idea is the Lee - Rubio Progressive flatter income tax as proposed by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Sen. Marc Rubio (R-FL)
Another idea that has been floating around for even longer than the FairTax is H. R. 27. It proposes to repeal the current Income Tax (but does NOT repeal the SS/Medicare "taxes") and replace it with an unspecific simple tax that incorporates several enumerated tax principles. H.R. 27 has consistently had far more Congressional Co-Sponsors than the FT (H.R. 25), including none other than FT House Sponsor Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA), as well as most all (i.e., 57 of 75) those House members who also Co-Sponsor the FT. Thus, nearly all the Co-Sponsors of the FT (which repeals SS/Medicare tax) also Co-Sponsor H.R. 27 (which does NOT) - this is a major aspect of the FT, so exactly what do FT Co-Sponsors really stand for?
One illustration of my warning that Congress would like to saddle us with both an income tax and a consumption tax is Democrat Sen. Ben Cardin's Progressive Consumption Tax (PCT) which proposes a V.A.T. plus an Income Tax with a $100,000 exemption for couples (with 3 tax rates on income exceeding the exemption and with "rebates" to replace Refundable Tax Credits so as to "protect" the poor and lower middle class from "unfair" taxation).
